Ryder’s Xchange Damage & Accident Policy

1. Responsibility During the Rental Period

The renter who books a vehicle through Ryder’s Xchange is responsible for the vehicle from the moment the rental period begins until the vehicle is returned to the host.

This includes responsibility for:

  • Accidental damage
  • Theft
  • Traffic violations
  • Loss of keys or accessories
  • Damage caused by misuse or negligence

The renter may be responsible for repair costs up to the amount of the applicable insurance excess or security deposit.

Peer-to-peer rental platforms commonly place financial responsibility for damage on the renter during the active booking period.

2. Accident or Damage Reporting

If an accident or damage occurs, the renter must:

  1. Ensure everyone involved is safe.
  2. Contact emergency services if required.
  3. Notify the host immediately.
  4. Report the incident to Ryder’s Xchange support.
  5. Provide photos and a written description of the incident.
  6. Where required by law, a police report must be filed.

Failure to report damage promptly may result in additional charges or suspension of the renter’s account.

3. Damage Claims Process

If damage occurs during a booking:

  1. The host must report the damage through the platform.
  2. Evidence may include:
    • Photos
    • Repair quotes
    • Inspection reports
  3. Ryder’s Xchange may review the claim and determine responsibility.

Repair costs may be deducted from:

  • The renter’s security deposit
  • Payment method on file
  • Applicable insurance coverage

4. Exclusions

The following are generally not covered by protection plans or reimbursement:

  • Normal wear and tear
  • Minor cosmetic marks
  • Mechanical failure not caused by the renter
  • Pre-existing damage

Routine maintenance and mechanical issues remain the host’s responsibility.
